🇬🇧 🇮🇹
It had been since Chinese New Year that I had not been to the Buddhist Temple, as soon as I entered I met Stella, the contact person that I met at the temple and who immediately told me that the next day at 8.30 there would be a big party for the celebration of a birthday of a deity, so I understood.
So armed with cameras at 8.30am I am already inside the temple and find a large number of people having a hearty breakfast while they prepare the food for lunch, before starting the ceremony.
I take a tour and in the main temple I see everything set up with round tables, while in the second area where the ceremony will take place I already see the deity ready with a four-tiered cake and several mountains of noodles.
I preface this by saying that not being Buddhist and never having witnessed this type of ceremony I do not know the procedure or even the meanings, but I hope to find someone who can explain it to me so that I can better understand and also update the article.
The ceremony begins.
The chanting, the prayers, the incense create a strong energy, I am fascinated by the atmosphere I can feel and see.
At first each of the women is given a small incense that they will then take turns burning after a series of rites before the main deity.
The monks after a series of rites move under the altar set up of the deity to be celebrated,
They continue the prayers and a new incense is delivered to each of the ladies, this one much longer and from the way it is made it also seems much more important given the gold and fuchsia-coloured inscriptions.
This time it is handed over without being burnt individually after bowing before the statue. Now all the incense is burned together and the prayers continue.
During this part of the ceremony many of them continued with their lunch preparations, with various fruit platters and other dishes.
At the end of this ceremony I take a tour to see where they are with the preparations, on all the tables there are cans of Coca Cola and EstaThè as well as a flood of ready-made dishes.
Immediately afterwards the ceremony resumes, now the number of participants has doubled, another altar has been added, also full of dishes.
The celebration continues in the same order as before, until prayers are collected from behind the deity being celebrated and then taken outside to be burnt along with the incense.
Once back inside, the last prayers are said at the last altar with a reading.

Here we are ready to finish the ceremony and move to the main hall, the plates are ready to be filled with noodles and bamboo soup. The hall is full and everyone is already eating, I am at the table with the monks, I seem to be one of the favourites, also because to my surprise I was the only westerner in the whole day, usually at these celebrations/events there is always plenty of journalists, photographers and authorities from the municipality and province. On the table there are a lot of things to eat, potatoes in all versions, fried soya, solidified soya with peanuts, seaweed, asparagus, steamed pumpkin, soya noodles, pine nuts with corn and carrots, prawns with asparagus, bamboo and many other things, at the end comes dessert.all very good.So that concludes this event that came up at the last second and I hope to be able to better understand the meaning of the whole celebration.
